Whale watching is one of the most exciting activities that Okinawa has to offer. The winter period, from late December to early April, is the breeding season of Humpback whales and the warm waters around Kerama Islands provide the perfect breeding conditions for them. For this reason, they migrate from Alaska in search of warm temperatures. Of course, we could not be happier about it and we take this chance to jump on a boat and go admire them! Visitors can choose between a morning departure (9:00 AM) and an afternoon departure (13:00 PM). The meeting point is in front of the boat, in Miegusuku port, at the following address: Japan, 〒901-0155 Okinawa, Naha, Nishi, 3−20 集合場所 It is also possible to book a hotel pick up, if you are staying in Naha city. The tour usually lasts around 3 hours and you will be dropped right where you departed. The staff of the boat will welcome you warmly, provide everybody with life jackets and, during the journey to Kerama Islands (around 30 minutes), will give all the instructions about safety. During the trip, there will be also a little funny ritual. While it is very likely to see whales, it is not a certainty! For this reason, the staff will also invite everybody to raise their fists in the sky and shout out all together a propitious incitement for the whales to appear! Once the boat arrives near Kerama Islands, passengers can move to the prow or to the upper deck to have a better view of the sea. Then, the boat will start to move slowly around, until the blowhole of a whale appears! Once this happens, the Captain is very good at following the whales without disturbing them. Normally, it is possible to see the fins of the whale slapping the water and their tail emerging. However, if you are lucky enough, you might see a whale breaching entirely out of the water with a big splash! Whale watching season goes from late December to early April! Other activities for you:
