Ocean Expo Park is a 70 hectares amusement park that stretches along the western coast of Motobu Peninsula, in the northern part of Okinawa Island. It was built in 1976, to commemorate the Okinawa International Ocean Expo held there a year earlier. The access to Ocean Expo Park is free and so are some attractions, like the Okichan theater, the sea turtle pool and the manatee pool. The pools are right in front of the aquarium and have different tanks where to observe these two beautiful animals. In the Okichan theater, there are 5 shows a day. The theater has many seats with great visibility and the spectacular Ie Island on the background. Be careful if you choose one of the front row seats. You will definitely be closer to the dolphins, but you might get out of the theater completely wet! The dolphins' performance is incredible, as well as their trainers'. You will be able to watch the dolphin perform some incredible tricks, jump, spin, and even sing! Kids, and not only kids, will love them. Did you Know? For a more cultural and historical visit, we cannot recommend enough the Oceanic Culture Museum & Planetarium. The entrance fee is extremely cheap (Less than 200 yen) but the museum is incredible, introducing visitors to the history of maritime people not only in Okinawa but also in the Pacific region. It displays many fishery tools as well as canoes and ships from the past. The planetarium section has daily shows about stars and galaxy, a wonder for the eyes! The main attraction of the Ocean Expo Park, of course, is the Churaumi Aquarium. Its bigger tank, called "Kuroshio Sea", black sea, is home to three exemplars of whale sharks, as well as many manta rays and other kind of fish. The whole aquarium is spectacular, with plenty of tanks, marine creatures, and opportunities to learn more about the ocean and how to protect it. In the park, there is also the Native Okinawan Village, a reproduction of a traditional village gathering more than twenty traditional residences of Okinawa. Finally, in the Tropical Dream Center, visitors will find a huge variery of tropical trees and plants. All attractions are connected by small shuttle buses, for the price of 200 yen for a 1-day pass. Ocean Expo Park is without any doubt one of the best and most complete theme parks of Okinawa. With a stunning view on Ie Island, the wonderful Emerald Beach and Bise Fukugi Tree Street just close by, it is a reference point in the northern area of the island and an absolutely impossible to miss attraction.
