Differently from other capes, Cape Maeda is not only enjoyable from the upland, with a nice view on the East China Sea, but also for its underwater part, with great spots for diving and snorkeling. Cape Maeda is located in Kunigami District, in central Okinawa. It is the most convenient access point to the famous Blue Cave, a spectacular spot for divers and snorkelers. If you come by car, there is a big parking with 180 spots. The price is 100 yen if you stay under one hour and increases roughly 100 yen for each additional hour. In front of the parking, you will find a building with shower rooms, coin lockers, changing rooms, vending machines, and a shop where to rent snorkeling and diving equipment. These are the stairs that will bring you to the popular snorkeling spot. The beautiful coral plateau and its shallow water make this area very crowded with tourists swimming around with their snorkeling gears. Among the corals, visitors will find many species of tropical fish. Cape Maeda is a great spot for beginners, but we recommend to dive and snorkle in groups of at least three people and, when possible, to be accompanied by a guide or instructor. Did you Know? If you are not interested in diving or snorkeling, you can enjoy Cape Maeda by having a nice walk on the coast. There is a nice path stretching on the east and west side of the cape, with a few terraces to admire the panorama. Cape Maeda is also famous as a sunset viewing spot. Enjoy a stunning sunset scenery, with the sun sinking behind the East China Sea!
