Okinawa Cellular Stadium is mainly a baseball stadium located in Onoyama Park, in Naha City. The stadium was first opened in 1959 under the name of Okutakeyama Stadium, and was renovated in 2010. It has 15,000 seats and a maximum capacity of 30,000 people, making it the first full-scale baseball field in Okinawa. Okinawa's first professional baseball game was played at the stadium in May 1961, when Nishisetsu Lions played against Toei Flyers. After 1975, no professional baseball game was played in this stadium until its renovation in 2010. The renovation was decided in 2006, as the stadium was becoming obsolete. Due to the lack of a roof, it was not very convenient during hot summer days, and because there were no seats in the infield stands, people had to seat directly on the concrete. The project costed 7.7 billion yen and the new stadium was ready in 2010, under the name "Naha City Onoyama Baseball Stadium" Did you Know? Inside the stadium, in the first floor, there is the Baseball Museum, where are displayed many items related to the baseball history of Okinawa. Okinawa Cellular Stadium is a great place where to attend amazing events. Nowadays, not only professional baseball games are played in this stadium, but also amateur games like high school tournaments. It is also used for various concerts, events, and festivals.
