Located inside Ocean Expo Park, and with an admission ticket of just 190 yen per adult (children and infants enter for free), the Oceanic Culture Museum and Planetarium is a very interesting museum in northern Okinawa that if it was not for the amazing Churaumi Aquarium just nearby, would probably get more attention. Let us explain you why we believe that this museum is definitely wort a visit. The museum, as the name says, introduces the history and culture of maritime people, not only in Okinawa, but in the Pacific area. Since the beginning of navigation, the ocean and the stars have always had an important connection, to help sailors follow their route. For this reason, to represent the tight bond between these two elements, there is a planetarium theater together with the oceanic culture museum. In the Planetarium, there is a different shows depending on the hour of the day, and according to the season. The shows last 30 minutes and are in Japanese. The main project, for example "The Beautiful Stars of Winter", or "The Beautiful Stars of Summer", changes every three months, following the four seasons of the year. Visitors can just seat on the comfortable reclining seat, relax, and when the light are off admire a night sky filled with more than 140 million stars. The shows are very informative, also for children, and visually stunning. The special effects are stunning and makes you feel totally immersed in the video. In our case, it was a documentary about the origins of space and stars. We felt like riding a spaceship travelling across space! The theme of the Exhibition Hall is "People who crossed the Ocean for a new world". It shows the great marine voyages of mankind and the greatest navigations techniques of the past. There are detailed models of the various types of ships used in ancient times, with pictures and explanations. Did you Know? For the cheap price of 190 yen, this museum surely delivers a lot of interesting content, making it one of our top recommendations for the Ocean Expo Park.
