Guide to the Go To Travel Campaign - How to obtain a 50% discount on your next trip in Japan.7/30/2020 What is the Go To Travel Campaign? How does it work? Is it really possible to obtain a 50% discount on your trip in Japan? There are surely many questions involving the new campaign launched by the Japanese Government to promote domestic tourism. Let's have a look at all the details of this new program and how to benefit from it! First Step: Check for the Eligibility The only requirement to apply is to have residence in Japan. In case of foreign residents, it means being in possession of a Residence Card (Zairyuu Card) with a japanese address registered on it. This document will be requested in the moment you apply and also at the facility where you plan to stay. The campaign began on July 22, 2020. UPDATE: From 1 October 2020, also residents of Tokyo can participate and receive the subsidy. The same happens for travellers who intend to include Tokyo in their travel programs. Second Step: Choose your Travel Agency The purpose of the campaign is to revitalize the tourism industry, which is suffering for the stagnation caused by the spread of the virus. For this reason, the discount on the entire travel costs of your trip is obtainable only when booking through a Travel Agency. If you book the trip by yourself, you will still be able to receive a subsidy for the accommodation expense, but not on the transportation. Not bad, but not the most convenient way! As for JinoTour, we have prepared many packages to have travellers enjoy Okinawa in the best way possible. Feel free to check them out on our website: Third Step: Let's Study the Subsidy The maximum subsidy is up to 20,000 yen per person per night. Now, let's have a look at how the subsidy is provided. For example, let's take the first column of the table above. With 1 night stay, let's suppose that the total price of the travel expenses is 30,000 yen. As the campaign says, the subsidy will be equal to 50% of these expenses, which in this case is 15,000 yen. However, these 15,000 yen will not be directly discounted from the price. The amount will be provided in a slightly different way: 70% of the 15,000 yen (equal to 10,000 yen) will be discounted directly from the price. 30% of the 15,000 yen (equal to 5,000 yen) will be provided in the form of coupons What are these coupons? They will be distributed by designated travel agencies and hotels, and each coupon will be worth 1,000 yen. They can be used in restaurants, souvenir shops, sightseeing facilities, and also for transportation. When paying with these coupons, no change will be given if the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the purchase. Fourth Step: A Few more Conditions Here are a few conditions to keep in mind when applying to the subsidy: - There are no limits on the number of travelers and the number of consecutive nights. The campaign also applies to day trips. - The campaign is only applicable to domestic trips in Japan. - Group trips are eligible for discounts. - There are no restrictions regarding the number of trips during the campaign period. - This campaign might end when the budget limit is reached. Fifth Step: Enjoy your trip! That's more or less all you need to know about the campaign! If you decide to travel in this period, make sure you follow the Travel Etiquette. Have fun and stay safe!
