The park of Daisekirinzan is located in Ashimui, a sacred place near Cape Hedo, where four rocky peaks (the tallest one is 250 meters above the sea level) were formed by the elevation of limestone 200 million years ago. The northern part of Okinawa, called "Yanbaru" is definitely less inhabited compared to the southern or central parts of the island. It is also the most geologically ancient, and where nature is wilder, with subtropical forests, rocky peaks, and rivers left much like they were thousands years ago. Daisekirinzan is a sacred place, where the Royal family of Ryukyu Dinasty is said to have prayed for their prosperity, for harvest and maritime safety. With more than 40 worship places, this is still a sacred area for many people. For this reason, visitors are invited to keep their voice low, and to avoid climbing the big rocks they will encounter. After buying your ticket at the reception, you will ride on a bus that in 5 minutes will bring you up to the Energy Cabin, the starting point of Daisekirinzan's trails. Here you will find toilets, maps, and some vending machines. Make sure to buy plenty of drinks for your adventure! There are four trails in Daisekirinzan. The longest one (1 hour) is the Trail of Fantastic Rocks. It covers the points 1, 2 and 3 on the map. This trail connects in point 4 with the Beautiful Sea Trail. From the Energy Cabin, it is also possible to follow a 100% barrier free trail. Personally, we found amazing that in such a wild environment, also visitors with walking disabilities can enjoy all the beauty of Daisekirinzan. The final trail is the Yanbaru Forest Trail, but we will talk about it when it's time to return to the ticket office! The Churaumi Trail climbs on the mountain, with a nice path in stairs delimited by a wooden fence. Did you Know? On your way, you will find many sacred spots and rocks with particular shapes. One of them has a very deep meaning. As its shapes reminds the place from which we all came from, there is a ritual of entering the rock formation from the back, and come out of it 3 times. Each time has a meaning, with the final time being like being born again, after leaving behind you all the bad memories from the past. It is a fun ritual, that will give you a lot of positive energy! At the top of the Churaumi Trail, the Churaumi (beautiful sea) Observation Deck offers an amazing view of Cape Hedo, the northernmost tip of Okinawa Island. The panorama is simply amazing, with a great 180 degrees view on both the ocean and the forest. The second part of the trail (downhill) will bring you back to the Energy Cabin. Here, you can choose if to take again the bus to return to the ticket office, or if to walk another 30 minutes in the Yanbaru Forest Trail. Of course, we suggest this second option! Along the way, you will find the ancient Gajumaru Tree! There are a few benches surrounding the tree, so that you can sit down, relax, and feel all the power that this special place seems to be surrounded by. The tree is so big and ancient that we personally felt as if it had its own spirit. Definitely, one of the highlights of Daisekirinzan. After a nice walk, you will be back to the ticket office. The adventure was extremely fun, but a bit tiring! At that point, we took a good rest at the little cafe-restaurant near the entrance of Daisekirinzan and enjoyed a delicious ice cream!
