The Churaumi Aquarium is located within the Ocean Expo Park and plays a central role as a sightseeing base in the northern part of Okinawa. Opened in 2002, it is the fourth largest aquarium in the world. The main theme of the aquarium is "Encounter the Okinawan Sea". The name itself, "Churaumi" means "Beautiful sea". The main attraction of this aquarium is the main tank, called Kuroshio Sea (Black sea). It is 35 meters long and it holds 7 million 5 hundred thousands liters of water. It is designed to allow the sunlight enter from the ceiling, in order to maintain the same environment as the sea. In the Kuroshio Sea tank, you will be able to admire three exemplars of whale sharks and many manta rays. Inside the aquarium, visitors will also find an area called "Life in the Inoh". Inoh means shallow water surrounded by coral reef in Okinawan dialect. Here, it is possible to see and touch marine creatures like starfish and sea cucumber. Ocean Expo Park features also other attractions, like the sea turtle and manatee pools, and the Okichan Theatre, with daily dolphin shows that kids will simply love. Watch the dolphins jump, do tricks with circles and balls, and even sing! Churaumi Aquarium and the Ocean Expo Park are part of our Norther Okinawa 1 day Bus Tour!
